Deacs Sweep Toledo in Black and Gold Challenge

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -Wake Forest volleyball made quick work of Toledo on Friday night, winning 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-15) in the Black and Gold Challenge.

Freshman Anna Carley registered 13 kills on 18 attempts with only two errors. Carley also tallied three service aces and eight digs. Senior Andrea Beck had 14 kills and only four errors.

Wake Forest jumped out to a 10-4 lead forcing Toledo to take a timeout. Following a few quick points from the Rockets, Carley and Rusk had back-to-back kills putting the Deacs up 18-11. Beck put up two kills from Danae Rosendall, putting the Demon Deacons at 24-17. After an attack error on the Deacs, a ball handling error on Toledo gave Wake Forest the 25-18 win.

In the second set, junior Kristin Grissom had five kills off eight attempts as Wake Forest won 25-17. At one point, the Deacs led 20-12 before finishing out the set strong before the break.

Wake Forest led for most of the third set, winning it 25-15. Junior Kristin Grissom had 10 kills for the Deacs while Kylie Hargreaves had six. Freshman Megan Miller had 11 digs to lead the team.

Jordan Kielty had six kills for Toledo while Adria Pryor had 11 digs.

Wake Forest (4-5/0-0 ACC) returns to action on Saturday with a match against Campbell at 12:30 p.m. in Reynolds Gym.
