RALEIGH, N.C. -Behind a stout defense, NC State defeated Wake Forest volleyball on Wednesday night 3-0 (20-25, 16-25, 16-25) in the ACC opener for the Demon Deacons.

Andrea Beck led the Deacs with 12 kills while Kristin Grissom and Kylie Hargreaves each had six. Megan Miller was first on the team with 19 digs.

NC State led early in the match, jumping out to a 6-3 advantage before Wake Forest it up at 6-6. With the Wolfpack leading 6-5, Grissom registered back-to-back solo blocks, putting the Deacs up 7-6 for their first lead of the match.

Later in the set, NC State went on a 9-1 run, eventually leading 20-12. Wake Forest rattled off a three-straight points, leading to a timeout from the Wolfpack. The Deacs rallied at the end of the set, but NC closed it out for a 25-20 final. Each team had four blocks in the set.

Wake Forest came out in the second set with a 3-1 lead, though both teams kept it close for the next several points. NC State would eventually retake the lead, pushing it to 19-10. The Wolfpack won the set 25-16, going up 2-0.

The Deacs led 3-0 in the third set that included a solo block and a kill from Grissom. NC State retook the lead, holding back the Demon Deacons attack. The Wolfpack won the set 25-16, sweeping the match 3-0.

Nikki Glass had 11 kills to lead NC State while Dariyan Hopper tallied nine.

Wake Forest (6-6/0-1 ACC) heads to Chapel Hill on Friday night for an ACC showdown against rival North Carolina at 7 p.m.
