Wake Forest Falters Against North Carolina

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -Kylie Hargreaves registered nine kills on Sunday afternoon, but North Carolina defeated Wake Forest 3-0 (19-25, 16-25, 21-25) in Reynolds Gym. The match was broadcast live on Fox Sports South along with other outlets across the country.

Hargreaves also had 10 digs in the match and three block assists. Andrea Beck had seven kills and one solo block while chipping in four block assists. Megan Miller led the team with 15 digs.

The Tar Heels jumped out to an early 20-10 lead in set one, but Wake Forest came back thanks to an 8-3 run by the Demon Deacons. With kills from Beck, Danae Rosendall and Kylie Hargreaves, the Deacs made it close though UNC won 25-19.

North Carolina controlled the action in the second set and won 25-16. Hargreaves had three kills while Rosendall had nine assists.

Jazmen Russell and Beck each had three kills in the third set while the Deacs defense held the Tar Heels to a hitting percentage of .171. Wake Forest kept close to North Carolina throughout the third, but the Tar Heels own 25-21 taking the match 3-0.

Paige Neuenfeldt had 14 kills to lead North Carolina (19-4, 10-3 ACC).

Wake Forest (9-16, 3-10 ACC) heads to Maryland and Boston College next weekend. The Deacs take on the Terps on Friday at 7 p.m. in College Park, Md.
