Wake Forest Comes Up Short Against Miami

The first set proved to be a marathon that eventually went to Miami as the Hurricanes won the set 31-29. In the beginning of the match, Miami pulled away to lead 15-10 while the Demon Deacons stormed back to lead 21-18 after a block from Jazmen Russell and Beck. Both teams kept tying up the score until the Hurricanes ended the match 31-29.
Wake Forest took the initial lead in the second set by going up 4-1but the Hurricanes took control and won 25-17.
In the third set, Hargreaves and Rusk tallied a block to tie the set at three. Using a strong run, Miami led 23-16 until Sam Boesch notched a kill followed by an attack error from the Hurricanes and block from Russell and Rusk as the Deacs struck back. But Miami finished the set 25-19 to win the match 3-0.
Russell had six kills and five block assists in the match while Boesch had four kills and two block assists. The Deacs out-blocked the Hurricanes 13.0-11.0 on the night.
Taylor Hollins and Alexis Mourning each had 12 kills to lead Miami (22-4, 14-2 ACC).
Wake Forest (10-18, 4-12 ACC) hosts No.13 Florida State at 3:30 p.m. in Reynolds Gym on Saturday.
