Wake Forest Kicks Off 2012 season

• Wake Forest starts the 2012 season on the road at High Point University on Tuesday at 7 p.m in the Mills Center.
• The Demon Deacons host UNC Wilmington on Friday night before taking on both Davidson University and Winthrop University on Saturday in the Deacon Invitational.

•Live stats and video will be available for all Wake Forest home matches in the Deacon Invitational on WakeForestSports.com. Only live stats will be available for each non-Wake match.


Last Time Out

•Wake Forest ended the 2011 season with a loss at Duke University on Nov.22. Andrea Beck led the team with eight kills in the match while Kylie Hargreaves was the leader in digs with seven.


This Week's Opponents

•High Point opened the season at the UNCW Beach Bash tournament last weekend with matches against UNC Wilmington, Long Island and Delaware State, going 2-1 overall. Wake Forest welcomes UNC Wilmington on Friday night for the home opener.
•Davidson and Winthrop are also in Winston-Salem for the Deacon Invitational.
•Opening up the season on Tuesday, Davidson hosts Gardner-Webb for its home-opener. Winthrop battled Florida Atlantic, North Carolina Central and UNC Greensboro in the NC Central Tournament, winning 2-of-3 matches before hosting Appalachian State on Tuesday.


Series History

•The Deacs are 22-17 all-time against High Point with the last win coming in 2011 in a 3-0 win at home.
•Wake Forest has a 4-1 overall record against Davidson. The two teams last faced each other in 2008 in which the Demon Deacons won 3-0 in Reynolds Gym.
•Winthrop and Wake Forest last met in 2008 when Wake Forest won 3-1. The Eagles hold a 10-7 edge in the overall series.


Next Up...

• The Demon Deacons head to Milwaukee, Wis. to compete in the Marquette Tournament. Wake Forest will face Michigan, Eastern Illinois, Northern Iowa and Marquette beginning on Sept. 7.
