Sophomore Andrea Beck Named to ESPN Academic All-District Team
Nov. 4, 2010
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest sophomore volleyball player Andrea Beck was named First Team ESPN Academic All District on Thursday as voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America. This is the first time that Beck has received the award, as this year is also the first season in which she has been eligible for nomination. In order to be eligible, a student-athlete must have participated in at least 50 percent of her team's games, be of at least sophomore standing academically and have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.3. A two-year starting middle hitter for the Demon Deacons, Beck has earned other academic awards already. As a freshman, she was named to both the ACC Volleyball All-Academic Team and the ACC Honor Roll. Beck has also enjoyed her share of success on the court this year. The Winston-Salem native was named to the Deacon Invitational All-Tournament Team in the team's first weekend of the year. She also was named ACC Player of the Week on September 27 after helping lead the Demon Deacons to road victories over Clemson and Georgia Tech. Beck has achieved these awards all while maintaining a 3.97 GPA as a biology major at Wake Forest. With the First Team Academic All-District selection, Beck will now be considered for Academic All-America honors.
