WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -Wake Forest head volleyball coach Heather Kahl Holmes has announced the addition of four players to the roster for the fall of 2013.

The four incoming freshmen include Sophia Dodd, Ashton Gregory, Hanna Lee and Maggie Sinkler.

Gregory and Lee are both middle blockers while Dodd is a setter and right side hitter. Sinkler is a defensive specialist/libero.

Sophia Dodd
5'11 - Setter/Right Side
Hinsdale, Ill./St. Igantius College Prep

High School:
Attended Saint Ignatius College Prep in Chicago, Ill. and was a four year starter on the varsity squad ... Was named the GCAC Player of the Year in 2012 and was on the GCAC Red Champions team in 2012 which was the first title in school history ... Named GCAC All-Conference all four year of high school ... Set five career records at Saint Ignatius ... SportstownChicago.com Illinois All-Star Game participant in 2012 ... Earned team MVP honors in 2011 ... Named to the Chicago Sun-Times All-Area Second Team in 2011 and picked up the Chicago Tribune All-Area Team special mention honors ... News-Gazette All-State second team in 2010 and special mention in 2011 ... Jacobs Invite All-Tournament team selection in 2011 ... Waubonnsie Valley Invite All-Tournament team in 2012 ... Club team won AAU 16 Open National Championship in 2012 and was awarded the MVP award ... Named in2012 as "Top 100 Senior Ace" by Prepvolleyball.com.

Personal:
Member of the National Honor Society ... Earned first academic honors each semester ... Participated in several community service projects including the Ronald McDonald House, the Greater Chicago Food Depository and St. Thomas of Canterbury.

 

 

Holmes on Dodd...
"Sophia is one of the top recruits in the country and we are looking forward to her making an immediate impact on our program. Her versatility as a setter and hitter combined with her knowledge and experience of the game makes her a valuable asset to our team. Sophia's athleticism allows her to be a dynamic setter and crafty hitter; we will have the opportunity to utilize her in many facets of the game. She is a proven leader on and off the court and we look forward to Sophia's many contributions as a part of the Demon Deacon family."

Ashton Gregory
6'2 - Middle Blocker
Yadkinville, N.C./Starmount HS

High School:
Competed for Starmount High School and was an All-Conference nominee for all four years of high school ... Earned All-Conference and the Player of the Year award in both her junior and senior seasons ... State champion her sophomore year and was the MVP of the state game ... Notched over 1,000 kills in her high school career ... She was the Miracle-Ear athlete of the week and honorable mention Miracle-Ear athlete of the week.

Personal:
Member of the National Honor Society.

Holmes on Gregory...
"Ashton is a North Carolina native and an athlete we've had the opportunity to see grow and mature from an early age. She brings a physical presence to our front-court and is versatile in her ability to play middle and at the pins. She presents a formidable block at the net and will only continue to establish herself as a dominant blocker in the years to come. Ashton is a fierce competitor and as she transitions to the speed of the next level, we look forward to her having a successful career here at Wake."

Hanna Lee
6'1- Middle Blocker
Chicago, Ill./Whitney M Young Magnet

High School:
Played all four years on the varsity squad at Whitney M. Young Magnet and was the team captain ... Selected to play in the Illinois state All-Star game in 2012 ... Led her club team to an AAU National Championship in 2011.

Personal:
Earned the Principal Scholars Award every semester for maintaining a 4.0 GPA.

Holmes on Lee...
"Hanna is a stellar athlete who will add immediate depth to our middle hitter position. Her natural blocking instincts along with her speed and efficiency will be an asset in our system. Hanna has experience playing alongside Sophia, and their connection will already be in place which is an added advantage for them. Hanna has trained and competed with one of the premier club programs out of the Chicago area (First Alliance), her work ethic and competitive drive are two of her biggest strengths. We look forward to seeing Hanna develop as one of the top middles in the conference."

Maggie Sinkler
5'7 - Defensive Specialist/Libero
Atlanta, Ga./The Lovett School

High School:
Captain of her high school team at The Lovett School and was the AA Player of the Year ... Won the AA State Championship her senior year and was All-State first team and All-Area first team ... All-Area first team selection her junior year and won three varsity letters.

Personal:
Member of the National Honor Society and was also a member of the Scholar's List and the Headmaster's List for academic achievements.

Holmes on Sinkler...
"Maggie is the definition of what we look for in our back-court defenders. She is fun, feisty and fierce. Maggie brings solid defensive instincts alongside steady serve receive skills which will afford her the opportunity to compete and contribute right away. Maggie is a tireless worker on and off the court; an intense competitor and bubbly personality make her a wonderful addition to the Wake Forest volleyball family. We are delighted to have Maggie join us and look forward to her success."
