Demon Deacons Take Fourth at Boston College Invitational

BOSTON, Mass. -- Led by senior Caitlin Chrisman's fifth-place finish, Wake Forest put three runners in the top 20 to finish fourth of 10 teams at the Boston College Invitational Friday afternoon at Franklin Park.
Chrisman finished the 5k race in 17:31. She was 17 seconds off the pace of Valparaiso's Laura Rolf who took home the individual title with a time of 17:14.
Freshman Marley Burns and junior Nicole Schappert also turned in top-20 finishes for the Demon Deacons. Burns placed 17th in 17:56, while Schappert was three spots behind in 20th with a time of 18:03.
Freshman Chelsea Bolton was just outside the top 25, placing 27th in 18:18.
Junior Merry Placer rounded out the scoring for Wake, as she ran an 18:42 to finish in 40th.
Freshman Jessica Barton, a native of Newton, Mass. was not far behind Placer, finishing 42nd in 18:47.
Redshirt freshman Whitney Curry and true freshman Cate Berenato were the seventh and eighth Deacons, respectively, across the finish line. Curry took 62nd in 19:35, while Berenato placed 63rd in 19:41.
As a team, Wake Forest finished with 106 points. Syracuse won the meet with 62, while host Boston College was second with 64 points.
The Deacons are not in action for another two weeks. Wake Forest travel to Eugene, Ore. for the Bill Dellinger Invitational on Sept. 29.
