Wake Forest Finishes Eighth at Bill Dellinger Invitational
Sept. 29, 2007 SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - Junior Nicole Schappert and senior Caitlin Chrisman each placed in the top 20 to lead Wake Forest to an eighth-place finish at the Bill Dellinger Invitational Saturday afternoon at the Springfield Country Club. Schappert and Chrisman each posted their third top-20 performance of the season to lead the Demon Deacons to an eighth-place finish out of 14 teams. Schappert finished the 6k race in 20:49 to place 14th out of 141 runners. Chrisman was four spots behind in 18th with a time of 20:55. Freshman Jessica Barton was the third Deacon across the finish line, placing 42nd in 21:21. Fellow freshman Chelsea Bolton and junior Merry Placer finished back-to-back in 56th and 57th respectively to round out Wake Forest's top five. Bolton and Placer each turned in times of 21:34. Freshman Marley Burns was just two seconds off Bolton and Placer in 61st place with a mark of 21:36. Freshman Cate Berenato ran a 22:25 to finish in 89th, while redshirt freshman Whitney Curry was 131st in 23:02. Freshmen Anne-Marie Duncan and Cristina Richard rounded out the Deacon competitors on the day. Duncan ran a 23:02, while Richard finished in 24:40.
Wake Forest's top five combined for a team score of 187, nine points off seventh-place Portland. Host Oregon won the meet with 65 points, and Arkansas was second with 90 points. Oregon's Nicole Blood took home the individual title, finishing in a time of 20:04. The Deacons are off next weekend before returning to action at the Penn State Invitational on Friday, Oct. 12.
