Wake Forest Finishes Eighth at Bill Dellinger Invitational

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - Junior Nicole Schappert and senior Caitlin Chrisman each placed in the top 20 to lead Wake Forest to an eighth-place finish at the Bill Dellinger Invitational Saturday afternoon at the Springfield Country Club.
Schappert and Chrisman each posted their third top-20 performance of the season to lead the Demon Deacons to an eighth-place finish out of 14 teams. Schappert finished the 6k race in 20:49 to place 14th out of 141 runners. Chrisman was four spots behind in 18th with a time of 20:55.
Freshman Jessica Barton was the third Deacon across the finish line, placing 42nd in 21:21.
Freshman Marley Burns was just two seconds off Bolton and Placer in 61st place with a mark of 21:36.
Wake Forest's top five combined for a team score of 187, nine points off seventh-place Portland. Host Oregon won the meet with 65 points, and Arkansas was second with 90 points.
Oregon's Nicole Blood took home the individual title, finishing in a time of 20:04.
The Deacons are off next weekend before returning to action at the Penn State Invitational on Friday, Oct. 12. The race will be Wake Forest's final competition prior to the ACC Championships on Oct. 27 in Charlottesville, Va.
