Wake Forest Dominates at Royals Challenge
Samantha Jones has three individual wins for the Demon Deacons this season.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Wake Forest junior Samantha Jones won her third race of the season on Saturday at the Royals Challenge, leading a pack of four Demon Deacons in the top five. Wake Forest easily won the team title as well for its third meet win of the fall.

Jones finished the 5k course at McAlpine Creek Park in 17:20.6. She crossed the finish line just ahead of teammate Kathleen Darling who took second in 17:23.1.

For Jones, it was her third individual victory of the season after winning the Covered Bridge Open (Aug. 29) and the Furman Classic (Sept. 13).

Freshman Cate Allen came in third in 17:44.1 behind Darling, while sophomore Ellie Abrahamson was fifth in 17:52.9.

Sophomores Kathryn Lazarchick and Chandler Borton also posted top-10 finishes. Lazarchick, who led the Deacons at the Upstate Invitational last weekend, placed seventh in 18:08.1. Borton, who made her collegiate cross country debut last weekend, took 10th in 18:15.6.

Senior Kaitlyn Oliver rounded out the Deacons' top seven runners, finishing 13th in 18:21.8.

The Deacons will race again next Friday at the Blue Ridge Open in Boone, N.C. Wake Forest will then have a weekend off before competing at the ACC Championships on Halloween morning in Earlysville, Va.
