Wake Forest Places Fifth of 25 at Penn State National Invite

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Senior Caitlin Chrisman and junior Nicole Schappert each posted their fourth straight top-20 finish to lead Wake Forest to a fifth-place showing at the Penn State National Invite Friday afternoon at the Blue/White Golf Course. Schappert finished the 6k race in a time of 21:33 to finish 14th out of 278 runners. Chrisman was right behind, running a 21:35 to place 16th individually. Freshmen Chelsea Bolton and Marley Burns and junior Merry Placer rounded out the Demon Deacons' top five, with only eight seconds separating the three. Bolton placed 46th in 22:09, and Burns was two spots behind in 48th with a time of 22:12. Placer ran a 22:17 to finish 49th. Freshman Jessica Barton turned in a time of 22:22 to place 59th, while redshirt freshman Whitney Curry placed 117th in 23:46. As a team, the Deacons scored 173 points to place fifth out of 25 teams. West Virginia took home the team title with 86 points, while host Penn State was second with 110. Kentucky and Syracuse finished third and fourth, just ahead of Wake.
West Virginia's Marie-Louise Asselin won the individual title, finishing the race in 20:46. The Deacons are back in action in two weeks with the ACC Championships on Saturday, Oct. 27, in Charlottesville, Va. Wake Forest Individual Results Team Results Top Five Individuals |
