Wake Forest Finishes Second at Blue Ridge Open

BOONE, N.C. - Kathleen Darling and Cate Allen finished third and fourth, respectively, to lead Wake Forest to a second-place finish at the Blue Ridge Open on Friday.

Racing in their final meet prior to the ACC Championships, the Demon Deacons finished with 44 team points, just six shy of meet host Appalachian State for the top spot.

Darling, a junior, paced Wake Forest in third place, finishing the 5k course in 18:18.47. Darling was just 15 seconds off the winning pace of Letitia Saayman of Coastal Carolina. The freshman Allen was not far behind in fourth with a time of 18:30.30.

Sophomore Ellie Abrahamson gave the Deacons three runners in the top 10 as she placed 10th in 18:51.15.

Senior Kaitlyn Oliver and sophomore Chandler Borton rounded out the scoring five in 18th and 19th places. Oliver finished in 19:11.01, while Borton was right behind in 19:14.14.

Sophomore Gabrielle Merritt placd 26th in 19:40.54 followed by senior Aubrey Waggoner in 31st in 19:51.58.

Wake Forest will have next weekend off before competing at the ACC Championships on Oct. 31 in Earlysville, Va. The conference meet is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
