Wake Forest Finishes Ninth at NCAA Southeast Regional

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Wake Forest wrapped up its 2014 season with a ninth-place finish out of 38 teams at the NCAA Southeast Regional on Friday at E.P. `Tom' Sawyer State Park in Louisville.

All-ACC performer Samantha Jones paced the Demon Deacons, finishing 34th overall out of 257 runners. Jones completed the 6k course in 21:08.4.

Freshman Cate Allen was not far behind Jones in her first NCAA competition. Allen took 40th place in 21:12.4.

Junior Kathleen Darling finished 10 seconds behind Allen in 21:22.2, taking 53rd place.

Sophomore Ellie Abrahamson ran an almost identical time to her performance at the ACC Championships, finishing in 21:44.3 for 73rd.

Fellow sophomore Kathryn Lazarchick rounded out the Deacons' scoring five in 89th with a time of 22:04.5

Sophomore Chandler Borton and senior Kaitlyn Oliver crossed as the sixth and seventh Deacons, respectively. Borton was 93rd in 22:09.6, while Oliver was 105th in 22:17.8.

William & Mary won the meet with 74 points to advance to the NCAA Championships. ACC rival Virginia took second place with 82 points to also advance. The Cavaliers just beat out North Carolina and Virginia Tech for the automatic bid.
