WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest standout cross country runner Nicole Irving has been named to the NCAA All-Southeast Region team, as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

A total of 450 athletes earned All-Region awards for cross country in Division I following last weekend's NCAA Regional Championships. Student-athletes that finished in the top 25 individually at one of the nine regional sites earned the honor.

Nicole Irving was the only Wake Forest runner to earn the award, and one of just 19 runners in the Atlantic Coast Conference to be named to the All-Region team.

Irving receives the award after finishing in an impressive time of 20:42.4 (6k) to place 14th overall at the Southeast Regional in Louisville, Ky., on Saturday. The sophomore from Ballston Lake, N.Y., moved up 38 spots from her Regional finish last year as a freshman, and she was one of only five underclassmen to place in the top 15 in the Regional meet this year.

Irving finished first among Wake Forest runners in every meet this season, including individual titles at the Covered Bridge Open and the Blue Ridge Open. Her personal-best 5k time of 16:54.9 came at the Charlotte Invitational on Sept. 30.

Irving also placed ninth overall at the ACC Championships in a personal-best 6k time of 20:38.1 to earn All-ACC honors for the first time of her career.

The NCAA Southeast Regional marked the conclusion of the cross country season for Irving and her teammates, and the Deacs will now look towards the indoor track season which begins on Dec. 2 with the Liberty Kickoff in Lynchburg, Va.
