The Demon Deacon
The long time mascot of Wake Forest, the Demon Deacon is known across the country as one of the most original and unique college mascots. It takes four full-time Wake Forest students to bring the Deacon to life as he has numerous apperances. The Deacon can be found at almost every sporting event but also attends numerous alumni and community events. The Demon Deacon is known for his fun loving spirit and outstanding love for Wake Forest sports. Fans often love to see how the Deacon will show up at football and basketball games, as he likes to be the center of attention is known for creating a stir when he comes into any event. On parent weekend, Grandma Deacon and Grandpa Deacon often show up. To schedule the Deacon for an appearance just give the spirit office a call. A fee is often associated with his visit to cover travel expenses. Try-outs for the Deacon are in conjunction with Cheer/Dance Try-outs. Students interested must maintain the same regulations as other varsity athletes and can letter as a varsity athlete. All the "Deacons" attend UCA Mascot camp in August and have been recognized 3 years in a row as the "All Around Most Collegiate Mascots." The Deacon travels to all football games and the ACC basketball tournaments. All mascots practice and weight train on a weekly basis with the cheer team. Scholarship money is available for at least 2 of the mascots. |
